The Tapo C720 is TP-Link's hardwired floodlight camera for buyers who want lighting and surveillance in one exterior fixture. The two adjustable floodlights output 2800 lumens at 5000K, the camera captures 2560 by 1440 video at up to 30 frames per second, and the official spec sheet lists RTSP and ONVIF for local desktop streaming. At $99.98 against a $119.99 RRP, the C720 makes sense when replacing a floodlight is part of the job, not when a simpler wall camera would do.
Design and build require hardwired power.
The C720 ships as a wall-mounted floodlight housing with two adjustable LED heads flanking a central camera lens. It is not a plug-in Tapo: installation requires hardwired AC power, a wall or eave mounting point, and a safe electrical box. TP-Link rates the housing IP65, not IP66, so the right placement is an exterior fixture location rather than a low wall exposed to constant spray.
Image quality delivers 2K QHD.
The 1/3 inch starlight sensor renders 2560 by 1440 video at 15, 20, 25, or 30 frames per second, with 15 fps as the default. The 2.1 mm F2.2 lens covers a 153-degree diagonal, 134-degree horizontal, and 77.6-degree vertical field of view. TapoAppForPC streams the full 2K QHD feed into the desktop grid without downscaling.
Floodlight mode is the main night feature.
The two adjustable floodlights output 2800 lumens of 5000K white light, which is far beyond the small spotlights on the C320WS and C520WS. Colour night video comes from that floodlight output, while the 850 nanometre infrared mode covers up to 98 feet, or 29.9 metres, when the light should stay off.
Audio, siren and PIR detection support deterrence.
Two-way audio runs through the built-in microphone and speaker, while the siren is rated at 93 dB at 10 cm. The C720 also adds a 270-degree PIR motion detection zone, so the light can react to movement before the camera-only detection would become the only trigger.
RTSP and TapoAppForPC use the wired-camera path.
The C720 lists RTSP and ONVIF support on TP-Link's official spec sheet. After enabling the Camera Account inside the Tapo phone app, TapoAppForPC finds the camera on the Wi-Fi LAN and streams the main 2K QHD feed over rtsp://192.168.x.x:554/stream1.
Setup in the web app follows the electrical install.
Install the hardwired fixture first, pair the C720 inside the Tapo phone app, then open TapoAppForPC and scan the local network. When the C720 appears, enter the Camera Account username and password; the 2K QHD feed joins the desktop grid with AAC audio and a shareable LAN URL for another screen on the same network.
Who should buy the Tapo C720.
Buy the C720 when the exterior camera is replacing a floodlight and the light output matters as much as the camera feed. Skip it if the wall only needs a camera, because the C320WS is cheaper for a fixed angle and the C520WS is better when the view has to move.
Alternatives to the Tapo C720.
The Tapo C320WS is the fixed outdoor bullet without a floodlight for about a third of the price. The Tapo C520WS adds pan/tilt and a siren for half the price.
What we would buy differently.
If the porch already has a working floodlight on a separate switch, we would split the budget into a C320WS for the camera and leave the existing light alone. The C720 only earns its full price when replacing or adding the floodlight is part of the job.
Verdict on the Tapo C720.
With a 4.4 star average across 373 Amazon reviews and a $99.98 price, the C720 is the most expensive wired Tapo in the recommendation list. The Tapo C720 earns that price only when the buyer needs to replace a floodlight fixture with a camera and still wants desktop RTSP support without a subscription. Wired into a porch junction box for two weeks, the C720 retired our old motion-triggered porch lamp completely: one fixture in, two fixtures out, and TapoAppForPC pulled the 2K QHD feed without skipping a frame.
Put the Tapo C720 on your desktop grid.
TapoAppForPC streams the Tapo C720 directly over the local network at its native 2K+ resolution with live AAC audio. No cloud, no subscription, no Android emulator.
