The Tapo C246D is TP-Link's dual-lens indoor/outdoor hybrid camera. One 2.8 mm lens holds a 125.5-degree fixed wide view, while a second 6 mm lens handles the pan/tilt detail view. The official spec sheet lists 2304 by 1296 video at 15 fps, RTSP and ONVIF support, IP65 weather resistance, three built-in spotlights, 5V Type-C power, and a 99 dB siren. Inside TapoAppForPC, the reason to buy the C246D is simple: one camera can behave like an overview tile and a controllable detail tile.
Design and build work indoors or outdoors.
The C246D can sit on a table, mount to a wall, mount to a ceiling, or attach to a pole. TP-Link rates the housing IP65 and lists operation from -20 C to 50 C, so it is not indoor-only. The camera uses one 5V DC Type-C power adapter, one 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio, one microSD slot up to 512 GB, and no Ethernet port.
Image quality splits overview and detail.
Both lenses capture 2K 3MP 2304 by 1296 video at 15 frames per second over H.264. The fixed 2.8 mm F1.6 lens covers 125.5 degrees diagonal, 107.8 degrees horizontal, and 57.8 degrees vertical. The 6 mm F1.6 pan/tilt lens narrows to 67.1 degrees diagonal, 57.8 degrees horizontal, and 30.1 degrees vertical for detail work.
Night vision and AI support both views.
Night vision combines 850 nm infrared to 40 feet, or 12 metres, with colour night vision from three built-in spotlights. The AI set is unusually broad for a hybrid camera: motion, person, pet, vehicle, line-crossing, baby cry, glass break, dog bark, cat meow, and camera tampering.
RTSP and TapoAppForPC use the wired-camera path.
The C246D lists RTSP and ONVIF support on TP-Link's official spec sheet. After enabling the Camera Account inside the Tapo phone app, TapoAppForPC finds the camera on the LAN and streams the lens feeds over local RTSP. The practical value is that the wide view can stay open while the pan/tilt lens points at the detail area.
Setup in the web app takes three steps.
Mount the camera, connect the 5V Type-C power adapter, then open TapoAppForPC and scan the local network. When the C246D appears, enter the Camera Account username and password; the hybrid view joins the desktop grid with AAC audio and local controls for the motorised lens.
Who should buy the Tapo C246D.
Buy the C246D when one location needs both a permanent overview and a zoomed detail view: a garage with two work zones, a front entrance plus hallway, or a covered exterior corner. Skip it if one lens covers the scene, because a C225 indoors or a C320WS outdoors is simpler.
What we would buy differently.
If the room is small enough that one wide lens covers everything that matters, we would skip the dual-lens trick and buy a C225 instead. The C246D earns its money only when overview plus detail genuinely prevents a second camera.
Verdict on the Tapo C246D.
The Tapo C246D is the hybrid Tapo to buy when one mount needs two jobs. It is not the cheapest indoor camera and not the strongest outdoor camera, but the fixed-wide plus pan/tilt combination is useful in places where one ordinary tile leaves a blind spot. In TapoAppForPC, the C246D belongs in layouts where the wide lens watches the scene and the motorised lens waits for the detail check.
Put the Tapo C246D Hybrid on your desktop grid.
TapoAppForPC streams the Tapo C246D Hybrid directly over the local network at its native 2K+ resolution with live AAC audio. No cloud, no subscription, no Android emulator.
Tapo C246D Hybrid frequently asked questions.
Does the Tapo C246D support RTSP on TapoAppForPC?
Yes. TP-Link's official C246D spec sheet lists RTSP and ONVIF support, and TapoAppForPC streams it locally after you enable the Camera Account.
Can TapoAppForPC rotate the pan-tilt lens on the Tapo C246D?
Yes. The motor controls rotate the pan/tilt lens while the fixed wide lens remains fixed for overview coverage.
How many Tapo C246D views appear in TapoAppForPC?
Use the C246D when you want an overview view and a controllable detail view from the same camera body. The exact tile handling depends on the app build, but the page recommendation is based on the dual-lens local-stream use case.
Does the Tapo C246D work outdoors?
Yes. TP-Link rates the C246D IP65 and lists indoor/outdoor mounting options, including tabletop, wall, ceiling, and pole mounting.
How much does the Tapo C246D cost?
