The Tapo C120 is TP-Link's compact indoor/outdoor fixed camera for buyers who are not sure where the camera will live next month. The official spec sheet lists a 1/2.9 inch progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor, 2K QHD 2560 by 1440 video at 20 fps, IP66 weather resistance, 850 nm and 940 nm infrared LEDs, full-colour night vision, dual spotlights, 5V DC Type-C power, and 512 GB microSD support. In TapoAppForPC, the C120 fills the gap between the indoor-only C100 and the dedicated outdoor C320WS.
Design and build target dual duty.
The C120 is a small fixed camera with an indoor/outdoor shell, a magnetic mounting base, a 3 metre Type-C cable, and IP66 weather resistance. The official dimensions are 67.4 by 57.4 by 44.1 mm, so it behaves more like a shelf camera than a full outdoor bullet. The microSD slot accepts up to 512 GB, but the body has no Ethernet port and no battery pack.
Image quality delivers 2K QHD.
The 4 megapixel 1/2.9 inch progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor records 2560 by 1440 at 20 frames per second. The 3.17 mm F1.65 lens covers 120 degrees diagonally, 103 degrees horizontally, and 55 degrees vertically, which is wider than a narrow doorway camera but not a pan/tilt replacement. In TapoAppForPC, the C120 is the fixed-lens upgrade when C100-level 1080p detail is too soft.
Night vision runs in colour or invisible IR.
The C120 combines a starlight sensor, dual spotlights, 850 nm infrared, and 940 nm invisible infrared. Both IR modes are rated to 30 feet, or 9 metres, while full-colour mode uses the spotlights for a brighter low-light frame. That makes the C120 better than the C100 for a porch, nursery, or garage where a red IR glow would be distracting.
Audio runs two-way with AAC transcoding.
Two-way audio is standard. The camera microphone and speaker both encode in a telephony audio codec, which TapoAppForPC converts to AAC inside the bundled audio layer before the browser touches the stream. A visitor at the door can be heard clearly and answered from a desktop keyboard.
RTSP and TapoAppForPC use the wired-camera path.
Tapo's C120 support area links PC, NAS, and NVR users to the RTSP/ONVIF setup flow. After enabling the Camera Account inside the Tapo phone app, TapoAppForPC finds the camera on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi LAN and streams the main 2K QHD feed over rtsp://192.168.x.x:554/stream1. The important limitation is network, not video: the C120 has Wi-Fi only and cannot fall back to Ethernet.
Setup in the web app follows the normal Camera Account flow.
Open TapoAppForPC, scan the local network, select the C120, and enter the Camera Account username and password from the Tapo phone app. The 2K QHD feed joins the multi-camera grid with live audio, scroll-wheel zoom, and a copy-paste LAN URL for another browser on the same network.
Who should buy the Tapo C120.
Buy the C120 when one fixed camera may move between a nursery, garage, porch, or covered exterior wall and you still want it in the desktop grid. Skip it if the view needs pan/tilt coverage, hardwired Ethernet, or a battery-powered mount.
Alternatives to the Tapo C120.
The Tapo C320WS is the better permanent outdoor bullet because it adds Ethernet and a longer 850 nm night beam. The Tapo C220 swaps weatherproofing for indoor pan/tilt tracking and a smoother room-monitoring workflow.
What we would buy differently.
If we knew the camera would stay on a fully exposed exterior wall, we would buy the C320WS instead. Its bullet body, Ethernet option, and longer infrared reach are more reassuring for a fixed outdoor install. For an undecided indoor/outdoor location, or for a covered porch where Type-C power is easy to route, the C120 is the more flexible buy.
Verdict on the Tapo C120.
The C120 earns a 4.4 star average across 5,890 Amazon reviews and the 2024 PCMag Editors Choice badge. At $29.99 it is the indoor/outdoor Tapo we recommend when the buyer cannot decide which room the camera is going to live in. We mounted a C120 under a porch eave for a fortnight: the IP66 body shrugged off two storms, and the dual spotlights kept the colour mode active far enough out to recognise a delivery driver's jacket.
Put the Tapo C120 on your desktop grid.
TapoAppForPC streams the Tapo C120 directly over the local network at its native 2K+ resolution with live AAC audio. No cloud, no subscription, no Android emulator.
Tapo C120 frequently asked questions.

Yes. The C120 product support area links to TP-Link's RTSP/ONVIF PC, NAS, and NVR setup flow. In TapoAppForPC, enable Camera Account in the Tapo phone app first, then use the local Wi-Fi address and stream1 path.
Does the Tapo C120 have colour night vision?
Yes. The C120 has full-colour night vision with dual spotlights, plus 850 nm IR and 940 nm invisible IR modes rated to 30 feet, or 9 metres.
